| Judul Artikel | Metaphor and Simile Translation in Andrea Hirata’s Edensor |
| Abstrak | Kata Kunci: metafora, simile, strategi terjemahan, novel Edensor. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) jenis-jenis metafora dan simile yang digunakan oleh Andrea Hirata dalam novel Edensor; (2) strategi terjemahan metafora dan simile yang diaplikasikan oleh John Colombo dalam novel Edensor. Penelitian ini berbentuk deskriptif kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode content analysis. Peneliti menggunakan teknik purposive sampling untuk mengambil data dengan proses menyeleksi data berdasarkan apa yang dibutuhkan dalam penelitian. Sumber data adalah novel Edensor karya Andrea Hirata dan novel Edensor terjemahan John Colombo. Hasil dari penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa terdapat 57 data metafora dan 35 data simile. Peneliti menemukan 4 tipe dari metafora di dalam novel Edensor, yaitu: 19 data dead metaphor, 33 data cliché metaphor, 3 data stock or standard metaphor, dan 2 data original metaphor. Peneliti menemukan 2 tipe simile di dalam novel Edensor, yaitu: 33 data implicit simile dan 2 data explicit simile. Cliché metaphor dan implicit simile mendapatkan angka yang paling tinggi dalam penelitian ini. Setelah peneliti menganalisis strategi terjemahan yang digunakan pada metafora di dalam novel Edensor dapat disimpulkan yaitu: 1. Strategi terjemahan reproducing the same image in the TL mempunyai 25 data metafora, 2. Strategi terjemahan replacing the same image in the SL with a standard TL image which does not clash with the TL culture mempunyai 22 data metafora, dan 3. Strategi terjemahan translation of metaphors (or simile) by simile plus sense (or occasionally metaphor plus sense) mempunyai 10 data metafora. Berdasarkan hasil analisis pada data simile di dalam novel Edensor dapat disimpulkan yaitu, untuk menerjemahkan simile penerjemah memakai 1 strategi terjemahan replacing the image in the SL with a standard TL image which does not clash with the TL culture) dengan 33 data of implicit simile dan 2 data of explicit simile. |
| Abstrak (Inggris) | Keywords: metaphor, simile, translation strategy, Edensor novel. The aims of this research are to describe: (1) the types of metaphor and simile used by Andrea Hirata in Edensor novel; (2) translation strategies in translating metaphor and simile applied by John Colombo in Edensor novel. This research is a descriptive qualitative. The method used is the method of content analysis. Researcher used a purposive sampling technique to retrieve data with the process of selecting data based on what is needed in research. The data source is Edensor novel by Andrea Hirata and Edensor novel translation of John Colombo. The results of this study suggest that there are 57 data of metaphor and 35 data of simile. Researcher found 4 types of metaphor in Edensor novel, namely: 19 data of dead metaphor, 33 data of cliché metaphor, 3 data of stock or standard metaphor and 2 data of original metaphor. Researcher found 2 types of simile in Edensor novel, namely: 33 data of implicit similes and 2 data of explicit similes. Cliché metaphor and implicit similes get the highest number in this research. After the researcher analyzed the translation strategies of metaphor used in Edensor novel, it can be summarized as follows: 1.Reproducing the same image in the TL has 25 data metaphor, 2.Replacing the same image in the SL with a standard TL image does not clash with the TL culture has 22 data metaphor, and 3.Translation of metaphors (or simile) by simile plus sense (or occasionally metaphor plus sense) has 10 data metaphor. Based on the analysis of simile in Edensor novel, the researcher found one strategy of translating similes in Edensor novel, that is replacing the image in the source language with a standard target language image which does not clash with the target language culture (found in 33 data of implicit simile and 2 data of explicit simile). |
