Penelitian yang berjudul An Analysis of Military Idiomatic Expression in Video Game Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare bertujuan untuk mengetahui arti dan jenis idiom dari idiom militer pada permainan video Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare dan menganalisa mengapa idiom digunakan. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menganalisa data. Data dari penelitian ini merupakan ujaran yang mengandung idiom militer dari seluruh karakter dalam permainan video. Teknik sampel keseluruhan diterapkan pada penelitian ini untuk mendapatkan data yang variatif. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan pragmatik dan dua teori. Pertama, teori idiom karya Makkai digunakan untuk menganalisa jenis-jenis dan arti. Kedua, teori tujuan dan fungsi idiom karya Chaer untuk menganalisa mengapa idiom digunakan dalam permainan video tersebut. Pada hasil pertama penelitian ini ditemukan 59 idiom militer. Seluruh ujaran tersebut berasal dari seluruh karakter dalam permainan video. Dari 59 idiom militer tersebut, terdapat 27 idiom tergolong kedalam phrasal verb idiom, 7 idiom tergolong kedalam tournure idiom, 1 idiom tergolong kedalam irreversible idiom, dan 24 idiom tergolong kedalam phrasal compound idiom. Kedua, to express suitable thought menjadi aspek yang paling sering muncul mengapa idiom digunakan dan diikuti oleh to show indirect meaning. |

The research entitled An Analysis of Military Idiomatic Expression in Video Game Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare aims to find out what types and meanings of military idiomatic expressions in video game Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and why idioms are used. I used qualitative method to analyze the data. The data of this research are the expressions which contain military idiomatic expression from whole characters in the video game. Total sampling was applied in this research to get various data from the object. To analyze the data, I used pragmatic approach and two theories. First, theory of types of idiom from Makkai was used to find the meanings and types. Secondly I used the purposes and functions theory of idiom from Chaer to find out why idioms are used in this video game. The first result shows that there are 59 military idiomatic expressions. Those expressions are uttered by the whole characters in the video game. From those 59 military idiomatic expressions, 27 expressions belong to phrasal verb idiom, 7 expression belong to tournure idiom, 1 expression belongs to irreversible idiom, and 24 expressions belong to phrasal compound idiom. Second, to express suitable thought is the most frequent aspect of why idioms are used and followed by to show indirect meaning as the second aspect. |
