| Abstrak | ABSTRAK Penelitian ini berjudul The Relevant of Reading Section in the English Textbook “Bahasa Inggris” by Intan Pariwara and the Syllabus of English of the School-Based Curriculum (A Descriptive Study in the XII Grade of MAN Cilacap Academic Year 2012/2013). Penelitian ini mengenai relevansi sebuah buku teks terhadap silabusnya pada bagian kemampuan membaca dan tindakan guru untuk mengatasi poin dan kriteria yang tidak relevan. Berdasarkan aturan, setiap sekolah semestinya memakai buku teks dalam kegiatan belajar dan mengajar bahasa Inggris, buku teks harus relevan dengan silabus, dan pengembangan silabus dan buku teks adalah kewajiban guru. Perhatian utama penelitian ini adalah (1) untuk mengetahui relevansi buku teks “Bahasa Inggris” dari Intan Pariwara dengan silabus bahasa Inggris, dan (2) untuk mengetahui usaha para guru untuk mengatasi poin dan kriteria yang tidak relevan. Data penelitian ini berdasarkan dokumen studi, kuesioner, dan interviu. Dokumen studi dipakai untuk menganalisa relevansi buku text terhadap silabusnya. Kuesioner dipakai untuk menganalisa usaha-usaha para guru untuk mengatasi sejumlah point dan criteria yang tidak relevan. Kemudian interviu dipakai untuk membantu validitas dokumen studi and untuk menjawab berbagai pertanyaan yang muncul selama penelitian. Kemudian data analisis termuat melalui tiga alur: data reduksi, data display, dan kesimpulan/data verifikasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskripsi kualitatif. Ini mendeskripsikan sebuah penyelidikan tentang relevansi buku teks dengan silabusnya dan tindakan-tindakan guru untuk mengatasi poin dan criteria yang tidak relevan. Peneliti menemukan bahwa buku teks terhadap silabus terdapat sejumlah poin dan kriteria yang tidak relevan pada bagian kemampuan membaca. Ketidakrelevanannya adalah tanpa latihan, tanpa aktivitas, tanpa pertanyaan, tidak muncul, tidak disebutkan, tidak dari sumber yang dianjurkan, dan tidak komplet. Dari penelitian ini dapat diketahui problem utamanya adalah Alokasi Waktu dan Sumber Belajar. Untuk mengatasinya, para guru bahasa Inggris kelas XII melakukan usaha-usaha untuk menutup kekurangan tersebut seperti menambahkan materi and mengganti materi yang tidak relevant dengan yang relevant. Kesimpulannya, dalam buku tersebut terdapat sejumlah poin dan kriteria yang tidak relevan, tapi ternyata tindakan guru untuk mengatasi hal tersebut sangatlah memuaskan. Ketidakrelevanan yang utama adalah Alokasi Waktu dan Sumber Belajar. Alokasi Waktu tidak disebutkan di dalam buku teks. Masalah ini membuat para guru mengalami kesusahan dalam menata waktu yang memang terbatas. Sumber Belajar tidak berasal dari sumber yang dikehendaki. Masalah ini membuat para guru harus mencari banyak sumber belajar ditengah waktu yang terbatas. Akan tetapi, hampir semua poin dan kriteria yang tidak relevan dapat diatasi oleh para guru terkecuali beberapa yang memang tidak esensial atau sudah diajarkan sebelumnya. Penelitian ini diharapkan memberi manfaat bagi guru untuk lebih teliti baik memilih maupun mengadaptasi suatu buku teks dan bagi sekolah untuk lebih ketat saat supervisi pada guru dalam hal silabus dan buku ajar. |
| Abstrak (Inggris) | ABSTRACT The research is entitled The Relevance of Reading Section in the English Textbook “Bahasa Inggris” by Intan Pariwara to the Syllabus of English of the School-Based Curriculum (A Descriptive Study in the XII Grade of MAN Cilacap Academic Year 2012/2013). The research is about a relevance of a textbook to the syllabus of English in reading section and the teachers’ action to cover the irrelevant points and criteria. Based on the regulation, every school should use textbook in teaching and learning of English, the textbook has to be relevance to the syllabus, and the development both syllabus and textbook is teachers’ duty. The main concerns of this research are (1) to find out the relevance of the textbook “Bahasa Inggris” by Intan Pariwara to the syllabus of English, and (2) to find out the teachers’ attempts to cover the irrelevant points and criteria. The data is based on the documentary study, the questionnaire, and the interview. The documentary study is used to analyze the relevant of the textbook to the syllabus. The questionnaire is used to analyze the teachers’ attempts to cover the irrelevants points and criteria. While the interview is used to validate the documentry study and to answer any incidental questions during the research. Then, the data analisis is in the three flow: data reduction, data display, and conclusion/data verification. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. It describes a study that cast about the relevant of the textbook to the syllabus of English in reading section and the teachers’ attempts to cover the irrelevant points and criteria. After conducting the research, the researcher finds out that the textbook has many irrelevant points and criteria to the syllabus of English in reading section. The irrelevances are no sufficient exercise, no description of activity, no question demanded, not appear criterion, not mentioned, not from the required source, and not complete. The irrelevant points and criteria as the main problems are Time Allocation and Learning Sources. To solve the problems, the teachers do many attempts to cover such as adding material and replacing the irrelevant to the relevant one. In conclusion, there are many irrelevant points and criteria, but there are good covering by the teachers. The main irrelevances are Time Allocations and Learning Sources. The Time Allocations are not mentioned in the textbook. These problem makes the teachers are hard to arrange the times which are limited. The Learning sources are not taken from the required sources. These problem makes the teachers have to search the plenty sources in the limited times. However, almost all of the irrelevant points and criteria are covered except some which are not essential for the class or have been taught in the previous teaching and learning. This research is expected to give benefit to the teachers to be more careful on both selecting and adapting a textbook and to the school to be stricter in supervising the teachers in term syllabus and textbook. |
