| Judul Artikel | An annalysis of X-phemism Used by The Main Character in Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest Movie |
| Abstrak | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pengguanaan X-phemisme pada ujaran tokoh utama film The Pirates of The Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest, Jack Sparrow dan mengidentifikasi bagaimana tipe-tipe konteks mempengaruhi pengguanaan X-phemisme. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif. Peneliti menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dengan menyeleksi data berdasarkan apa yang hanya dibutuhkan dalam penelitian. Data pada penelitian ini adalah semua ujaran yang dihasilkan oleh Sparrow, sementara sampel diambil dari ujaran yang merupakan tipe X-pemism berdasarkan klasifikasi Allan dan Burridge. Setelah melakukan penelitian, dari 5 tipe X-phemism yang dikemukakan oleh Allan dan Burridge, terdapat 15 euphemisme, 10 dysphemisme, 6 orthophemisme, 4 euphemistic dysphemisme, 6 dysphemistic euphemisme dalam ujaran Sparrow di film ini. Euphemisme adalah buah pemikiran mengenai apa yang sebaiknya ia katakan untuk menghadapi permasalahan yang tiada habisnya. Euphemisme juga digunakan oleh Sparrow untuk mempermudah jalan rencana-rencananya. Sementara itu, hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukan bahwa tipe-tipe konteks mempengaruhi cara Sparrow menggunakan masing-masing X-phemisme. Pengaruh tiap-tipe konteks dengan X-phemisme saling berkesinambungan satu dengan lain. Tipe-tipe konteks tersebut berpengaruh dalam pemilihan kata yang ia ujarkan. Sparrow paling sering menggunakan euphemism di saat ia merasa takut, tidak nyaman dan tertekan. Ini ia lakukan untuk menghindari konflik dan memuluskan rencananya. Namun ketika konteks menunjukan bahwa Sparrow memiliki power lebih tinggi ataupun setara, berada di teritorinya sendiri dan didukung oleh situasi yang ada ia cenderung menggunakan dysphemisme untuk meluapkan emosi, memancing kemarahan, menghina dan berniat merendahkan para partisipan lain. Ujaran euphemistic dysphemisme sangat membantunya dalam meluapkan emosi negatif yang ia samarkan sepositif mungkin, hal ini berlaku juga untuk ujaran dysphemistic euphemisme, Sparrow dapat menunjukan kedekatan hubungan dengan mengekspresikan rasa sayangnya secara dysphemistic karena mereka tak akan tersinggung. |
| Abstrak (Inggris) | The aims of this research are to find out the types of X-phemism used in “Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest” movie by the main character, Jack Sparrow, and to identify context types which influence the use of those types. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The researcher used purposive sampling to take the sample, which means the process of selecting sample based on the need of the research. The data of the research are all the utterances produced by Sparrow, while the samples of this research are Sparrow’s utterances containing X-phemism based on Allan and Burridge’s classification. After conducting the analysis, the researcher found that from 5 types of X-phemism purposed by Allan and Burridge. All of them occurred in Sparrow’s utterances. Those X-phemism types were: (15) euphemisms, (10) dysphemisms, (6) orthophemisms, (4) euphemistic dysphemisms, (6) dysphemistic euphemisms. Euphemisms are the product of Sparrow’s mind confronted situation of how to talk about something in which he wished to avoid as the response to the problems that keep emergence during this movie while he inhabited lower power position in most of the time. Euphemisms also occur to smoothen his negotiations as part of his scheme. Meanwhile, the result of these research showed that context types have influence the way people used each types of X-phemism. Context types have an effect on how Sparrow chose language. Motivated by fear and unease also by his distaste in under pressure situation to avoid communication failures and conflicts Sparrow tends to employ euphemism. While the continua of higher or horizontal power in social relationship, territorial and situational espouse between interlocutors, Sparrow resorts to dysphemism as the result of his purpose to insult and wish to humiliate also wound his hearer, self-angry expression at the same time make other angry and frustration. Euphemistic dysphemism successfully accomplish his purposes even though his hearers share the same background knowledge. Same goes for his dysphemistic euphemism expression. He can show affectionate use of dysphemism to his friends and keep him stay out of unnecessary conflict. |
