| Abstrak | Penelitian yang berjudul “Predator as the Stereotype of Afro-American in Zootopia (2016)” ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana isu stereotipe terhadap kelompok keturunan Afrika-Amerika dijelaskan dalam film Zootopia (2016) melalui karakter-karakter predator. Dalam penelitiannya, peneliti berlandaskan teori mengenai stereotipe yang dikemukakan oleh Stuart Hall. Lebih lanjut, penelitian ini dikategorikan sebagai penelitian kualitatif karena pembahasan dituangkan dalam bentuk penjabaran dan tidak berkaitan dengan hitungan dan angka. Pada akhirnya, hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa isu stereotipe yang dihadapi oleh karakter predator di kehidupan sehari-hari dalam film Zootopia (2016) merepresentasikan apa yang dihadapi oleh kelompok keturunan Afrika-Amerika. Pertama, stereotipe yang terjadi di film Zootopia (2016) memfiksasi “perbedaan” yang kemudian meng-generalisasikan semua karakter predator sama ternyata juga dialami oleh kelompok keturunan Afrika-Amerika. Kedua, isu stereotipe yang terjadi di film ini membagi masyarakatnya menjadi dua kelompok: predator dan mangsa. Akibatnya, kondisi tersebut membuat mereka yang dikategorikan sebagai mangsa melakukan praktek-praktek rasisme. Terakhir, stereotipe terhadap karakter predator secara tidak langsung membuat peran mereka di masyarakat terbatas ternyata dialami pula oleh kelompok keturunan Afrika-Amerika. | Abstrak (Inggris) | This research entitled “Predator as the Stereotype of Afro-American in Zootopia (2016)” is aimed to find out how stereotype issue of Afro-American is described in Zootopia (2016) through the predator characters. In getting to the main point of this research, the researcher uses Stereotype theory elaborated by Stuart Hall. In analyzing this film, analytical method is used by the researcher in order to give wider explanation. Besides, this research is classified as the qualitative research since it is expressed in the form of description and does not deal with counting and numbers. In short, the result of this research shows that, stereotyping issue faced by the predator characters in their daily lives represents of what happens towards Afro-American. First, the given-stereotype fixes and generalizes all predators are same is also happened with Afro-American. Second, the stereotype issue happened in the film split the society into two groups: prey and predator. As the consequence, this condition leads the prey characters in doing some racism practices. Last, stereotyping that happened towards the predator characters limits their role in society also happened towards Afro-American.
