| Abstrak | Penelitian ini berjudul “Signifying Colors in Blue is the Warmest Color by Julie Maroh” bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana warna menandakan sesuatu pada novel grafis yang dibuat oleh Julie Maroh berjudul Blue is the Warmest Color. Untuk mendapatkan tujuan penelitian, teori semiotik Pierce yang merupakan karakteristik dari tanda akan digunakan sebagai teori utama. Serta, teori warna digunakan untuk menganalisis arti warna pada novel grafis milik Maroh. Di samping itu, penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dalam menganalisis data karena data pada penelitian ini tidak berhubungan dengan nomor dan hitungan. Data utama adalah novel grafis berjudul Blue is the Warmest Color oleh Julie Maroh dalam edisi bahasa Inggris yang telah diterjemahkan oleh Ivanka Hahnenberger. Karena itu, hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa makna warna pada novel graphis milik Maroh selalu berkaitan dengan tokoh utama bernama Clementine. Warna-warnanya menandakan perasaan Clementine melalui tiga poin yaitu tokoh (rambut, tangan, dan baju), simbolisme (diari) dan graphic weight. Warna biru pada bagian-bagian tertentu dari tubuh tokoh pendukung memiliki makna yang sama yaitu daya tarik bagi Clementine (tokoh utama); sementara rambut kuning menggambarkan perasaan cemas Clementine dalam menghadapi masalahnya dengan Emma. Selain itu, warna biru di buku harian membuat Clementine merasa tenang meskipun Ia memiliki banyak masalah. Kemudian, graphic weight menunjukkan jika warna biru adalah warna bahagia untuk Clementine. |
| Abstrak (Inggris) | The research entitled “Signifying Colors in Blue is the Warmest Color by Julie Maroh” aims to figure out how do colors signify in Julie Maroh’s graphic novel Blue is the Warmest Color. In order to get the research objective, Pierce’s semiotic theory which is the characteristics of sign are used as the main theory. Moreover, the colors theory is used to support the analysis of the colors meaning in Maroh’s graphic novel. Besides, this research used qualitative method in analyzing the data since the data is not dealing with counting and numbers. The primary data is a graphic novel entitled Blue is the Warmest Color by Julie Maroh in English languange edition that has already translated by Ivanka Hahnenberger. Consequently, the result of this research shows that the meaning of colors in Maroh’s graphic novel always related to the main figures named Clementine. The colors signify Clementine’s feeling through three points which are figures (hair, hands, and clothes), symbolism (diary) and graphic weight (color). The blue color on the specific parts of the supporting figure’s body has a same meaning which is an attraction feeling for Clementine (main figure); while the yellow hair depicts the anxiety feeling of Clementine in facing her problem with Emma. Besides, the blue color in the diary makes Clementine feels serene even though she has a lot of problems. Then, the graphic weight shows if the blue color is a happy color for Clementine. |
