Abstrak (Inggris)Objective: This study aims to determine and compare the antibacterial activity of ethanol extracts of corms, pseudo-stems and petioles of Ambon banana (Musa x paradisiaca L.) against Staphylococcus aureus. Methods: This was an experimental laboratory study with Staphylococcus aureus as the sample. Phytochemical screening was carried out by the tube method to determine the presence of flavonoid, saponins and tannins. The antibacterial activity of ethanol extracts of Ambon corms, pseudo-stems and petioles were tested using the solid dilution method. The corm extracts concentration are 10%; 12,5%; 25%, psedo-stem extracts are 12,5%; 25%; 30%, stem extracts are 12.5%; 25%; 50. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) value and the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) value are calculated by counting the number of colonies in the petri dish. Results: Phytochemical screening showed that the three extracts contained flavonoids, saponins and tannins. The highest value of MIC and MBC were showed by corm extracts with the MIC of 12.5% and MBC 15%, followed by the petioles extracts with the MIC of 25% and MBC 30%, then pseudo-stems extracts with the MIC of 25% but without MBC. Conclusion : Ethanol extracts of Ambon banana corms, pseudo-stems and petioles can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. The corm extract has the most powerful antibacterial activity when its compared to petioles and pseudo-stem extracts.
