AbstrakPenelitian ini berjudul “The Use of Chain Writing Method to Improve the Students’ Descriptive Writing Skill (An Experimental Study at the 7th of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto in the Academic Year of 2019/2020)”. Tujuan umum penelitian ini adalah tentang pengajaran menulis dan untuk mengetahui kegunaan chain writing pada kemampuan menulis terutama pada teks deskriptif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) untuk mengetahui penerapan metode Chain Writing pada kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi siswa (2) untuk mengetahui apakah metode Chain Writing meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi pada siswa (3) untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap implementasi metode Chain Writing pada kemampuan menulis deskriptif siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan kuantitatif eksperimental. Subjek dari penelitian adalah siswa kelas tujuh SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Contoh kelas yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ada dua: 7 C sebagai kelas kontrol dan 7 D sebagai kelas eksperimental. Data yang terkumpul berdasarkan observasi, test, dan kuisioner. Hasil dari penelitian ini ditunjukkan berdasarkan 1) metode Chain Writing sukses diterapkan, terbukti pada observasi dapat dilihat dari bagaimana guru dan siswa melaksanakan kegiatan pembelajaran menggunakan metode Chain Writing tanpa permasalahan, guru memberikan penjelasan secara jelas tentang metode Chain Writing dan siswa dapat memahami penggunaan metode Chain Writing dengan baik. 2) penerapan methode chain writing meningkatkan kemampuan menulis deskriptif siswa. Hal ini terbukti dari hasil pre-test dan post-test siswa, nilai rata-rata yang didapat meningkat, dari nilai rata-rata pre-test sebesar 40 poin dari total nilai 1.328 dan dari 27 siswa, untuk post-testnya nilai rata-ratanya sebesar 70 poin dari total nilai 1.891 dari 27 siswa. 3) siswa memberikan respon positif terhadap penggunaan methode Chain Writing. Berdasarkan perhitungan kuisioner penelitian, total presentasi siswa yang memilih positif respon sebesar 80% dari 8 pertanyaan. Berdasarkan penjelasan di atas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa methode pembelajaran Chain Writing dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis deskriptif siswa.
Abstrak (Inggris)This research is entitled “The Use of Chain Writing Method to Improve the Students’ Descriptive Writing Skill (An Experimental Study at the 7th of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto in the Academic Year of 2019/2020)”. This research concerns on teaching writing and chain writing for the students’ writing skill, especially in descriptive text. The purposes of this research are: (1) to know the implementation of chain writing method to the students’ descriptive writing skill, (2) to know whether or not the chain writing method improves the students’ descriptive writing skill, and (3) to know the students’ responses to the implementation of chain writing method on students descriptive writing skill. This research use a quantitative experimental. The subjects of this research were the seventh grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto in the academic year of 2019/2020. Sample of this research were two classes: 7 C as the control class and 7 D as the experimental class. The data were collected though observation, tests, and questionnaire. The result of this research showed based on: 1) the implementation of chain writing method was successfulas seen from the teaching and learning processes conducted using chain writing method had no serious problem, the teacher give a clear explanation related to the use of chain writing method, and the students’ are understand the explanation related to about the use of chain writing method well. 2) the use of chain writing method improving students ability in writing descriptive. Its proven on the improvement of students’ test result from the pre-test and the post-test from the students’, the score is increasing from the mean of pre-test score is 40 points of the total score is 1.328 from 27 students, and the mean of the post-test score was 70 points from the total score is 1.891 from the 27 students. 3) the students’ give positive response to the chain writing method. Based on the calculation of the reaserch questionnaire, total percentage students’ who choose positive response was 81% from 8 questions. Based on those explanations, it can be concluded that the chain writing method is improving the students descriptive writing skill.
