Penelitian dengan judul “British Society’s Perspective towards LGBTQ+ Communities Portrayed in larryvgl’s Somebody to Love” ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui situasi yang dihadapi oleh komunitas LGBTQ+ pada kisaran tahun 1950an-1960an di Britania Raya melalui penggambaran dari karakter utama dalam cerita berjudul Somebody to Love yang ditulis oleh larryvgl. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mencari kemiripan antara cerita dan sejarah dari komunitas LGBTQ+ di Britania Raya. Oleh sebab itu, metode kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini sebab proses analisa perspektif dari masyarakat Britania Raya pada 1950an-1960an menggunakan proses pendeskripsian dan pengartian dari cerita. Data utama diambil dari objek pada penelitian ini yaitu cerita berjudul Somebody to Love oleh larryvgl. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu ditemukan beberapa kesamaan ditemukan dari sudut pandang gender dan seksualitas. Di sudut pandang gender, peran gender menjadi isu utama karena baik cerita maupun sejarah setuju mengenai hal yang sama; bahwa lelaki adalah sosok yang berkuasa dalam rumah tangga, sedangkan wanita menjadi sosok yang harus patuh. Namun, karakter utama dalam Somebody to Love digambarkan sebagai seseorang yang melawan peranan gender yang berlaku. Sedangkan untuk sudut pandang seksualitas, homophobia dan heteroseksis menjadi isu utama. Diskriminasi terhadap komunitas LGBTQ+ jelas ditemukan baik dalam cerita maupun dalam sejarah LGBTQ+ di Britania Raya. Heteroseksis seringkali melabeli LGBTQ+ sebagai sebuah dosa, penyakit, dan tindakan kriminl yang pantas untuk dipenjarakan. Kesimpulannya, penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa cerita Somebody to Love oleh larrryvgl benar-benar menggambarkan keadaan komunitas LGBTQ+ di Britania Raya dalam kurun waktu 1950an sampai 1960an.

This research entitles “British Society’s Perspective towards LGBTQ+ Communities in 1950s-1960s Portrayed in larryvgl’s Somebody to Love”. It is aimed to figure out the LGBTQ+ communities situation in the 1950s-1960s in Britain through the portrayal of main character of Somebody to Love by larryvgl. Furthermore, this research is conducted by finding the similarities between the story and the history of LGBTQ+ in Britain. Thus, qualitative method is employed in this research for it is analyzing the perspective of British society in the 1950s-1960s using the description and interpretation of the story. The primary data comes from the object itself, Somebody to Love by larryvgl. The results of this research show that some similarities are found from gender and sexuality perspectives. In gender’s perspective, gender role becomes the main issue as depicted both in the story and the history; men are the superior one in the house and women become the inferior. However, the main characters of Somebody to Love are portrayed to be the gender norm’s breaker. Meanwhile from sexuality perspective, homophobia and heterosexism become the main issues. Discrimination towards LGBTQ+ communities are absolutely found in both the story and history of LGBTQ+ in Britain in the 1950s. Heterosexism often considered LGBTQ+ as sin, diseases, and a criminal acts that deserved to be put in jail. In conclusion, this research proves that Somebody to Love by larryvgl is surely portraying LGBTQ+ communities condition in Britain in the 1950s until 1960s.
